A VISIT TO REGIONAL FORENSIC SCIENCE LABORATORY
The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a visit to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory(RFSL), Kuntikana, Mangaluru on 27th April 2022 at 10 am for second year students of MSc CFS both Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice(FPCJ) & Questioned Documents and Impression Evidence specializations.
The FPCJ students were accompanied by Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor of the department who had an opportunity to get the demonstration on the Polygraph tests conducted to detect the deception. They had an interaction with Senior and Junior Scientific officers of the Forensic Psychology Division regarding Criminal Profiling, Brain Fingerprinting, Narco-analysis and Hypnotherapy.
The QDIE students were accompanied by Ms. Bindiya T, Assistant Professor of the Department were able to get exposure in the Forensic Questioned Document Divisions, demonstration on the identification and comparison of handwriting and documents were shown using Video Spectral Comparator (VSC), comparative Microscope and other functions of instrumentation division. They had an insight into the general idea of setting a Laboratory, interaction with Scientific officers in the relevant field.
The first year students of MSc CFS accompanied by Mr. Joel Joseph had visited RFSL at 1.30pm. They had an opportunity to get practical demonstration in Forensic Biology/Serology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Toxicology and Instrumentation sections of Forensic Science Laboratory. Students were provided insights about functioning of respective departments and were explained in detail with the example of live cases. Demonstrations were given in the laboratory where the students learnt how the devices operate. They also learnt how an expert opinion is given by the experts to the Criminal Justice System. Altogether, 42 students and 3 faculties of the department had visited and interacted with the scientific officers of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory.
