The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (CFS) had organized fifteen days block placement in various police stations under the jurisdiction of Dakshina Kannada District Police from 10 February 2024 to 26 February 2024 for nineteen first year students of the department.
The main objective is to have firsthand experience of working with police officials and to learn the various functions of Police station, Procedure of maintaining different Crime Control Records and to get a field exposure in investigation. For this purpose the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada District assigned 5 Police Stations such as Bantwal Police Station, Puttur Rural Police Station, Sullia Police Station, Vitla Police Station and Uppinagady Police Station for the students. The detailed report of each day maintained by the students had been evaluated and each student were given an opportunity to share their learning experience in the class.
The students expressed that they had good learning experience with the police, the way each case is handled, role and responsibilities of police officials, programmes conducted to prevent various crimes, crime control awareness provided to the public, police-public relation etc. Students were also given various opportunities to practically witness the autopsy procedure, be a part of bandobusth, patrolling of social gatherings etc. Students also stated that block placement helped them to remove the negative image of police and created an opportunity to build contact with Police.
At the end of the Block Placement, students expressed their gratitude for the insight provided by all the officials. Altogether, 19 students were placed in the police stations.
