The District Level Cultural Fest, "DHWAN 2024," was organized by the Sahayog Forum- BSW Department, IQAC, and the Youth Red Cross of the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, in collaboration with Mangalore Refinery Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), was held on September 30th, 2024. With the theme “Swachhata Hi Seva” (Cleanliness is Service), the event emphasized the significance of cleanliness and environmental responsibility through artistic expression. The fest aimed to inspire individuals and communities to embrace cleanliness as a collective responsibility, using the arts as a medium for this noble cause.

Inauguration Ceremony

The formal inauguration of the fest commenced at 10:00 a.m. with a prayer led by Sr. Geli and team, III BSW, setting a spiritual tone for the event. The Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the inauguration was Ms. Brahmi, III BSW, who gracefully guided the audience through the proceedings. Mrs. Veena B.K., Head of the BSW Department, extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants, emphasizing the relevance of the theme. In a symbolic gesture of environmental commitment, a sapling was handed to the guest, marking the official inauguration of the program. This was followed by the dignitaries watering the sapling, reinforcing the event's commitment to cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Steevan Pinto, from the HR team at ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd., who highlighted the critical role of cleanliness in society and urged participants to extend this message to larger communities. The unveiling of the trophies for the cultural fest added to the excitement, symbolizing the artistic and environmental spirit of the event.

The esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. Nagaraj, Coordinator of Hasirudala, was introduced by Ms. Colin Dsouza, Assistant Professor in the BSW Department. Mr. Nagaraj emphasized the significance of cleanliness in both personal and community contexts, aligning his address with the theme of the fest.

Mr. Prashanth Baliga, General Manager of MRPL, also addressed the gathering, encouraging active engagement in promoting the event's goals of cleanliness and service. Dr. Saritha Dsouza, IQAC Coordinator, delivered the Presidential Speech, reinforcing the college’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the overall vision of DHWAN 2024. The inauguration ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Anusuya Kamath, formally recognizing the contributions of all those involved in the successful commencement of the fest.

Cultural Events: Dance Drama Competition

The fest proceeded with a series of cultural performances, including the highly anticipated Dance Drama Competition based on the theme "Swachhata Hi Seva." Mr. Kevin Crasta, III BSW, hosted the competition, which saw participation from six prominent teams across the district. The competition was judged by a distinguished panel consisting of Music Maestro Alexander Joel Pereira, Film Director Shri Jagan Pawar, Director of Sanketh Associates, and Ms. Varsha Lobo, a Model and Marketing Manager at Honeycomb Media, Mumbai. Each performance creatively depicted the importance of cleanliness through drama, dance, and artistic expression.

 Valedictory Program

The valedictory program, hosted by Ms. Khathija Mehtha, III BSW, marked the conclusion of the fest. *Mrs. Deepika Sanil* introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Sundara Rai Mandara, a renowned actor and artist from Tulunadu, fondly known as 'Rang da Raje'. In his address, Mr. Mandara spoke about the importance of nurturing talent, emphasizing how every individual has the potential to become a great artist with dedication and effort.

The announcement of prize winners was made by Mrs. Anusuya Kamath, followed by the distribution of certificates and cash prizes by Mr. Sundara Rai. The second prize, along with a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-, was awarded to team "Van Rakshak" from Government First Grade College Carstreet, while the first prize, with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, was secured by team "Swachh Sitare" from Alvas College Moodabidri. The winners were celebrated for their artistic excellence in portraying the theme of cleanliness.

The fest concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Sanketh Nayak, President of the Sahayog Forum, III BSW, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, guests, and organizers for their collective efforts in making DHWAN 2024 a resounding success. The event ended with a group photograph, capturing the spirit of unity, art, and commitment to environmental responsibility.

DHWAN 2024 was a remarkable blend of culture and environmental consciousness, inspiring participants and the audience to embrace cleanliness as a service to society. The fest not only showcased artistic talents but also reinforced the message of Swachhata (cleanliness) in line with the national campaign, creating a lasting impact on all those who participated.
