As a part of academic practical curriculum, the second-year students of Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice Specialization accompanied by Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor of the Department had visited to De-Addiction and Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Centre at Fr. Muller Medical College, Kankanady, Mangaluru on Thursday, 26th March 2024 at 1:30 pm.
The primary aim of the visit was to acquire first-hand knowledge regarding the operations and services offered by the institution for individuals who are dealing with addiction and to interact with the clients. Students first interacted with Mr. Sripathi Bhatt, Counsellor, who welcomed the gathering. Then Mr. Christ, intern, gave a presentation on the history of Fr. Muller Charitable Institution. A documentary video regarding the same was also played.
Further, Mr. Gerald, in-patient at the centre addressed the students and spoke about his experience with alcohol addiction and how it affected his life. He went on to talk about the importance of de-addiction centres as well as counsellors in the recovery of people dealing with addiction.
Lastly Mr. Shripati Bhatt spoke about the different therapies they use to help with de-addiction and the services provided by the de-addiction centre towards its patients. The visit ended with a tour of the facility and a vote of thanks at 3:30 pm. Students expressed that the visit was informative and could gain more insight into the subject matter taught in the classroom. Altogether, 07 students and a faculty was part of this visit.
