An extension activity was organized by the Department of MSc Counselling at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore, for participants of Tripta De-addiction centre. The session, held on 24th January 2025, from 11:00 AM to 4:00pm, was conducted by the MSc Counselling students. It was designed for the inmates in Tripta De-addiction Centre.
The objective of the session was to educate the participants about Relapse prevention and assess their perceived stress. The module focused on finding the members strengths and resources. The facilitators helped the members to learn different emotional focused coping and problem focused coping strategies. The module incorporated techniques from SIT.
The session began with an ice-breaking activity, fostering group cohesion and creating an engaging environment for the participants. This was followed by an assessment to find the members perceived level of stress. Participants were guided through activities that helped them identify their common triggers for drinking. The facilitators provided information about what is relapse prevention and the importance relapse prevention. The facilitators helped the members to find their internal strengths and resources. The facilitators focused on teaching the members emotional focused coping and problem focused coping strategies. Techniques like emotional record, deep breathing and cognitive rehearsal were practiced during the session. Problem focused coping strategies like SMART goals, Assertiveness techniques and create a to do list were taught to the members in the session.
The session concluded with a summarization of the things the participants learned and practiced in the session. The facilitators encouraged the participants to use the techniques outside the session too and appreciated the participants for their active participation. The facilitators collected the feedback from the participants.
