On February 21st, 2024, the 1st MSc Counselling students facilitated a thought-provoking thematic presentation on Schizophrenia under the theme ‘Echoes of Perception’. Widespread stereotypes and stigmas result in a person with schizophrenia experiencing social isolation, abandonment, unemployment, or discrimination. This forum event therefore, was aimed to address these misconceptions and to provide valuable insights into this complex mental disorder among the participants in order to create an empathic and supportive environment for the people having this mental condition.

The program commenced with a soulful prayer song by Sr. Clara and team, set the tone for the sensitive and informative forum event. Ms. Ifrath Banu, was the Master of ceremony of the event. Ms. Nivedya Mohan warmly welcomed to the program the 105 participants, Deans, HODs of MSW, MSc Criminology and Forensic Sciences, MSc Counseling and other faculty members from the PG department. In her welcome speech she briefly emphasized the importance of understanding and supporting individuals with Schizophrenia.

Ms. Pavitra A then introduced a poignant skit portraying the symptoms, altered perceptions, and challenges faced by someone living with Schizophrenia. This impactful performance offered a glimpse into the internal world of these individuals, fostering empathy and understanding amongst the audience.

It may not affect the person’s ability to work.
