A capacity enhancement Programme was organised by department of Counselling in collaboration with Psychology department on emotional regulation titled "The Art of Mastery" was conducted on 22nd February. The session was taken up for 32 students of 3rd BA at School of Social Work. The session was conducted by group leaders Ani, Fiza, and Sidrah who aimed to empower undergraduate students to recognize and manage their emotions effectively. The objective of the session was to empower students to recognize and manage their emotions effectively and to foster healthier interpersonal relationships and improve their communication skills. The session was carried on by the group leaders where they introduced emotional regulation as a vital skill for managing emotions constructively so that they can master themselves and deal effectively with their daily situations. Strategies such as resilience-building, social relationship improvement, sleep optimization, and mindfulness practices were discussed. Specific techniques like setting boundaries, deep breathing, mindfulness meditation, and positive self-talk were emphasized.
The leaders conducted activities such as "Finding Nemo” which prompted the students in identifying emotions in a movie clip and brainstorming the calming strategies they can use to manage their emotional health. The leader then educated the group about Emotion Wheel and asked processing questions that facilitated reflection on emotions and coping strategies. Then the leaders conducted "Jenga Race" activity which encouraged teamwork and problem-solving while addressing emotional regulation that they could use in various situations. Processing questions were asked to encourage discussion on challenges faced and lessons learned. The leaders then educated the group about emotional regulation strategies. Which was followed by another activity called “.30 seconds or bust" this activity gave special emphasis on non-verbal communication of emotions within teams and identifying them effectively. Processing questions facilitated a reflection on the importance of communication strategies on recognising and dealing with emotions. At the end of the session leaders collected feedback through rating sheets. The leaders received Vote of thanks from the participants and the leaders conveyed their gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and contribution to the success of the session.
