The BSW Department - SAHAYOG Forum and IQAC of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore, organized an impactful workshop titled "Self-Awareness and Skills While Working in with Children" on July 18, 2024. This workshop targeted 44 BSW Students (15 first-year BSW students and 29 second-year BSW students) and was held in the Seminar Hall at 1:30pm.

The session commenced with Ms. Teresa Rose Santhosh, Final year BSW student serving as the Master of Ceremony. The event began with a beautiful prayer song performed by Sr. Lilita Toppo, Sr. Dayamuni Lakada, and Sr. Aruna, final year BSW students, setting a serene and reverent tone for the gathering. This was followed by a welcome address by Ms. Sharanya Shetty, a Second-year BSW student, and the introduction of the resource person, Asst. Prof. Thani Anwar, M.Sc. Counselling, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, by Ms. Disha, a final year BSW student. The primary objective of the session was to enhance self-awareness in the students and develop their skills while working in with children. This included fostering an understanding of children's diverse needs, developing effective communication strategies, and implementing supportive practices to create a nurturing environment for their growth and development. Various activities were conducted throughout the session to engage the students and reinforce the learning objectives. The students were divided into groups to facilitate interactive discussions, role-play exercises, and collaborative projects. These activities aimed to provide hands-on experience and practical insights into working effectively with children. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Vandana Shetty, a final year BSW student.

The program was meticulously organized under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Veena B.K., HoD of the BSW Department, with Asst. Prof. Anusuya Kamath, Asst. Prof. Colin D'Souza, and Asst. Prof. Deepika Sanil also in attendance. The workshop significantly increased self-awareness among the students. They gained valuable insights into their own strengths and areas for improvement, as well as practical skills for working with children in various settings. The interactive nature of the workshop ensured that students could apply what they learned in real-world scenarios, enhancing their overall competence and confidence.
