On August 21, 2024, the SAHAYOG Forum- BSW Department and IQAC of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore organized an awareness programme on APD Skill India Mission for 75 BSW students in the seminar Hall at 3:30pm. The session aimed to raise awareness about the APD Skill India Mission and discuss skill development initiatives empowering people with disabilities (PWDs).
The programme began with a prayer led by Sr Kishori and Sr Sabina, II BSW followed by the introduction of the Resource Person, T. Vinayaka Kini, by Mrs. Veena B.K., Head of the Department of BSW. Mr. Vinayaka, an alumnus and Coordinator for the Livelihood Department at APD, provided a comprehensive overview of the skill development programmes under the Skill India Mission. He emphasized vocational training, digital literacy, and soft skills for enhancing employability and independence among PWDs.
The workshop included inspiring success stories, an interactive session, and a discussion on potential collaborations. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Sr. Priya Veronica D'Souza, II BSW.
Through the workshop, social workers gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by PWDs and their needs and rights. The interactive session fostered greater empathy and awareness among attendees. The program was organized under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Veena B K, with support from Asst. Prof. Anusuya Kamath, Asst. Prof. Colin D'Souza, and Asst. Prof. Deepika Sanil.
This initiative marked a significant step toward fostering an inclusive environment supporting the full participation of PWDs in society.
