On 18th October 2024, the SAHAYOG Forum-BSW Department in collaboration with the PG Department of Criminology and Forensic Science and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru organized a Workshop titled "Empowering Youth: Strategies for Cyber Crime Prevention and Online Safety." The workshop aimed to equip students with essential strategies to prevent cybercrime and ensure their online safety.
The session was led by Mr. Niketh P S, Assistant Professor of the MSc Criminology and Forensic Science program. He was supported by facilitators Mr. Hevin Ujwal Vas and Mr. Vignesh, both second-year MSc CFS students. Their collective expertise contributed to a comprehensive understanding of cybercrime issues and prevention strategies.
The objectives of the Workshop were to raise awareness among youth about the growing threats of cybercrime, to equip students with practical strategies to safeguard their online presence, and to encourage proactive measures and responsible behavior in the digital space. The workshop was attended by 30 Second year BSW students, with faculty members Ms. Colin D'Souza and Mrs. Deepika Sanil, Assistant Professors in the BSW Department.
The session covered various aspects of cybercrime, including the types of cyber threats facing youth today, strategies for online safety such as password management and recognizing phishing attempts, and the importance of digital literacy and responsible online behavior. Participants engaged in interactive discussions and activities, enhancing their understanding and awareness of cyber safety. The workshop was a success in empowering students with crucial strategies to combat cybercrime and enhance their online safety awareness.
