A Personality Development Program focused on self-acceptance was held for II BA students on July 8, 2024, in the college auditorium. The session was facilitated by Fr. Rohan Dias, Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department.
The session began with engaging activities to break the ice and foster interaction among participants. These included:
- Machli Game: A fun and interactive game that set an energetic and engaging tone for the session.
- Pair-Up Activity: Participants played a "plus-minus" game, sharing details about their family members, dates of birth, heights, and weights. This activity helped them connect and understand each other better.
Key topics discussed during the session included:
- Self-Acceptance: Emphasizing the importance of embracing oneself, including both strengths and flaws.
- Self-Talk: Strategies to cultivate positive self-talk.
- Maintaining a Positive Attitude: Tips and practices for maintaining a positive outlook despite challenges.
- Overthinking and Anxiety: Exploring the nature of overthinking and its connection to anxiety.
- Be Kind to Yourself: Encouraging participants to practice self-compassion and kindness.
- Embracing Problems as a Natural Part of Growth: Viewing challenges as opportunities for personal development.
Practical exercises on self-acceptance given to students included:
- Creating Your Mission Statement: Crafting a brief statement outlining their life goals and aspirations.
- Exploiting Resources: Identifying and discussing how to utilize available resources for personal growth and development.
- Helping Others: Highlighting the importance of supporting others and the reciprocal benefits of doing so.
- Stretching Comfort Zones: Encouraging participants to step out of their comfort zones to foster growth.
- Setting SMART Goals: Teaching participants how to set Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals.
- Prioritizing Personal Needs: Emphasizing the importance of making one's own needs a priority to ensure well-being.
- Stopping Procrastination: Sharing techniques to overcome procrastination and maintain productivity.
- Forgiveness and Moving Forward: Discussing the importance of forgiving others to move on and improve mental health.
- Ignoring Others’ Opinions: Teaching the importance of not being overly concerned with others' judgments.
- Making Small Positive Changes: Emphasizing the power of small, incremental positive changes in life.
The session was interactive and informative, focusing on practical strategies for self-improvement, mental health management, and personal growth. Participants left with actionable steps to enhance their well-being and achieve their life goals. A total of 25 students participated in the session.
