SIGNIFICANCE OF RESEARCH FOR PROMOTING EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
“Excellence is never an accident. It is the result of high intension, sincere effort and skillful execution”. This concept applies even to the domain of research.
Faculty Development programme on the topic ‘Promotion of Research for Professional Excellence’ was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) along with Center for Research and Publications and Department of Research Studies of School of Social work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru on 27 June 2022. The resource person for the FDP was Dr. Gracy Fernandes, Project Co ordinator, Haiti. A total of 20 faculty participated in the Faculty Development Programme.
Dr. Gracy Fernandes, the resource person of the FDP addressed the topic of ‘Promotion of Research for Professional Excellence’, in a systematic and precise manner. She analyzed the concept of research and broke it down systematically to help the participants comprehend the same. She spoke on how research can be cold, aloof and mechanistic if approached with a closed mind and how it can be turned around to warmth, involvement and made humanistic.
The participants were enlightened on how research can alleviate human suffering, promote social welfare and thereby build professional growth. Emphasis was laid on practice and research sharing the same goals. Dr. Gracy stated that teaching can be made effective with research. Concepts such as ‘indigenization’ and ‘authentication’ were discussed with examples.
She motivated the participants to conduct research and gave several inputs on the same. The subject of research was made approachable to the inexperienced and widened the horizons of the ones experienced in the stream. She was an inspiration to the crowd to start off with a goal and how things would fall in place automatically to succeed.
The speaker was indeed motivating and simple in her ways binding the participants with her immense knowledge and wisdom gained over the years.
The session was held in the college auditorium. Dr. Meena Monteiro, Dean Research & Faculty, P.G Department of Social Work welcomed the gathering, Ms. Jinsa Joseph Asst. Professor, P.G Department of Social Work introduced the speaker and Ms. Vineetha Pereira, Assistant Professor, Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks.
