General Activities and Infrastructure Report
The College has a has established the Centre for Research and Publications with specially trained personnel on Research Methodology, Statistics and SPSS software to undertake sponsored research projects and to provide technical guidance to research scholars and to students. The institute is a recognized centre for Ph.D. Programme since1983.
The Department of Research has taken up studies and successfully completed several research projects for the Government of India, State Governments, University, Industries, Banks, NGOs and Health Care Institutions.
The funds received by UGC and other sources has been a great support to build the Centre for Research as knowledge factory and Skill builder.
Objectives of the Centre for Research

- To facilitate departmental and inter-departmental research studies through consultancy

Promotion of Research
The Research Department is headed by the Director and its staff. The objective of the department is to promote research culture among the faculty and students. The department encourages the UGC faculty members to take up research projects along with Non-UGC faculty members. It also encourages Interdepartmental research as well as collaborative research in the field of social sciences.
Apart from the above activities, the research department the organizes certificate course on Research Methodology and SPSS Training. In this course, the students and faculty members from different colleges are invited to take this course.
Resource Mobilisation
The faculty members undertaking research are given seed money by the management on request.
The management encourages the faculty members to avail UGC and other funds for Research Projects. The college encourages the staff to present their project findings in National and International Conferences and seminars.
Students are encouraged to take up research at their undergraduate and post-graduate departments. The research department provides guidance and support to student’s in the form of orientation in preparation of project proposals, statistical analysis. The students are encouraged to present their research finding at State, National and International Seminars. Some students research articles are published in college magazine and journals.
Professional Regulatory Bodies and Ethical Committees
- The Centre has an Institutional Research Ethical Committee where the Ph.D scholars proposal are presented and monitored to be submitted to the university. The research proposals are approved by the Institutional Research Ethical committee if it is the requirement of the funding agencies.
- The Centre has formed the Internal Research Ethics Committee in order to promote a research culture among faculty members and the students. The research proposal is presented and feedback is given to the presenters.
- Reviews and approves research proposals designed by faculty and students involving human participants with a view to safeguard the dignity, rights, safety and wellbeing of all actual and potential research participants.
- Ensures that the cardinal principles of research ethics viz. Autonomy, Beneficence, Non-malfeasance and Justice are in place in planning, conduct and reporting of the proposed research.
- Examines compliance with all regulatory requirements, applicable guidelines and laws. The mandate of the IRECs is to review all research projects involving people to be conducted at the Institute, irrespective of the funding agency.
- Regular meetings are conducted to guide the faculty members to take up research and guide them to take up the research in the mainstream. Planning and implementing activities of the Centre for Research has been conducted periodically.
Research based Consultancy
Consultancy services is provided by the faculty based on their knowledge and expertise. College infrastructure is used for the consultancy purpose also. The different areas where the consultancy is provided are Research, Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Counselling, Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Communication and Interpersonal Relationship, Corporate Social Responsibility, Psychological Tests, Stress Management, Computer Knowledge, Leadership Training Criminology and Forensic Science.
The college encourages faculty for consultation services by giving permission and making adjustments in their time-table so that classes are not disturbed.
The Government Departments and Non-Government Organisations, schools, colleges and industries seek consultancy from Department such as Social Work, Psychology, Criminology and Forensic Sciences, Computer Application, Rural Development, English, Kannada, and Hindi.
Research Units as Knowledge Factories
- The Department of Research has set up its units in MSc Criminology and MSc. Counselling to promote the research culture in the departments.
- Publications of Books, Journals and Articles by the faculty members and the students.
- The Department has published various books and the “Adelaide Journal” which is a yearly journal by the college.
- The books related to Social Work, research methodology, counselling, statistics, human health, counselling, education, motivational books, criminology were utilized to offer workshop, seminars, symposium, debates, quiz and lectures for the teachers and learners to promote a research culture.
Infrastructure and Facilities for Competency Package and Skills Building Programmes
- Installation of SPSS
The SPSS is installed in all the computers of the Department. It has helped the department to enter the huge data quickly and in an efficient manner. It has reduced the time of entering the data. Training of Trainee (TOT) was given to the students and the research scholars to enter and process data in SPSS. - Research Lab
The research lab set up has computers installed with SPSS. It has helped the students as well as the research scholars to learn and use the SPSS to enter the data with ease and to analyse the findings of the study. - Computers
The Computers provided has helped us in storing the data and the entering the data of the concerned projects in an efficient manner. This has helped in the documentation of the research department. - Tables and Chairs
The funds were also utilised to bring the tables and chairs for the departments so that, the staff can perform their task in a smooth and comfortable environment. Computer tables were also purchased for the development of the research lab. - Devices for Storage
The Department has also utilized the funds to store the data in external hard disks, pen drives. The external hard disk bought has all the soft copies of the researches conducted in the past five years. - Camera/CD Player
A camera has also been bought which has helped in quick documentation of the meetings and activities conducted in the department. We also have a CD Player which is utilized for the therapies in certain researches. - Communication Accessories
The fund was also utilized to purchase the notice boards so that the daily activities or the programmes could be conveyed or presented to the individuals who come to visit the department. - Cupboards
The cupboards were also purchased and were utilized to store the data and the important documents in safe custody. - Fans
Fans were also purchased as the number of staff in the department has increased. It was useful for the staff.
Innovation and Best Practices
- Best Researches Award every year for PG research students based on their performance in their PG dissertation.
- Regular Internship Programmes are offered for the learners from our own students and students request from allied Colleges.
