“Life doesn’t make any sense without interdependence. We need each other, and the sooner we learn that the better for us all.” — Erik H. Erikson
Psychology occupies a unique position straddling the line between physical and biological methodological orientations and a subject matter that spans the social and human sciences. Psychology as a much sought-after subject is one of the major subjects offered in the BA (Triple Major) undergraduate degree programme at School of Social Work, Mangaluru. The various courses are firmly grounded through both theory and practical classes to understand theories, principles, and nuances of the subject matter. The courses are based on disciplinary developments and relate to both Indian cultural ethos and contemporary realities.
Psychology students gradually become aware of their own personality, motivation, aptitude, and other mental processes allowing them to become more introspective and appreciate the uniqueness of others. This encourages empathetic engagement which improves their personal and professional lives. Depending on their advanced studies and personal interests, they would be well-positioned to pursue careers in both the arts and sciences.
