As part of the Service Extension Programme, Nine Youth Red Cross volunteers from the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya successfully completed a six-day externship at Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru, from 9th to 14th December 2024. Under the guidance of Mr. Ravindra, the hospital in-charge, the volunteers gained hands-on experience in various hospital departments and services.
Throughout the externship, the volunteers were assigned to different hospital wards, actively assisting in OPD registration, front-line services at the entrance, and patient care in the child ward, Disability Certificate Issuing Centre, ECG room, and wound dressing room. Their responsibilities included registering patient details, assisting nurses, and guiding visitors.
Additionally, as part of the hospital’s community library initiative, the YRC volunteers distributed books and magazines to patients, fostering a supportive and healing environment. This enriching experience provided them with valuable exposure to hospital operations and enhanced their understanding of healthcare service delivery.
