The students of MSW specializing in Medical & Psychiatric Social Work had gone for a study tour to Bangalore from 7th to 10th December 2022
On the first day the students visited CADABAMS AMITHA (REHABILITATION CENTER) GULAKAMALE VILLAGE. AMITHA, set up in 1992, is Cadabams' first mental rehabilitation center, named after Late Amitha Cadabam, it is the most comprehensive rehabilitation center for mental health disorders. They provide personalized rehabilitation programs that offer a better path to recovery and are the leading mental rehabilitation center in India for all kinds of mental health issues During the visit the students were taken for a campus tour of the rehabilitation center by Ms.Shibin overall in charge and counsellor in the institution Dr Rajasekhar Hiremath, Director, Operations spoke on the rehabilitative services provided at the centre. Dr. Hiremath also emphasized on the role of counsellors in this Institution.
The second visit was to ECHO SPECIAL HOME, ECHO. It is a city-based non-government organization (NGO) working since the past 20 years in the field of child protection, rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of child offenders. It was founded by Fr.Antony Sebastian as a government detention centre for children in conflict with law. Students were given an orientation to the institute by Superintendent Mr. Biju Thomas and explained how they prepare and train children in board and competitive exams & traffic police assistance.
Day two the students visited the spastic society of Karnataka. It is a non-governmental organisation brought together by the collective passion of its members to dedicate their lives to the welfare and progress of those with developmental disabilities (cerebral palsy, on the autism spectrum and intellectual, learning disabilities, language disorders and other conditions that come under the scope of developmental disabilities). Ms. Radha Mohan took a session on the history of the institution, its functioning and the way they work with parents & children with developmental disability, there was a campus tour and visited craft shop and bakery in the campus.
The second visit was to the RICHMOND FELLOWSHIP SOCIETY,BANGALORE. It was established in the year in 1986 as a humble beginning to provide psychosocial rehabilitation and support for those suffering from severe mental illness This Institution has grown in the last three decades into a fairly big operation. The Richmond Fellowship Society (India) Bangalore Branch [RFS] provides help through its facilities like the halfway home (ASHA), Day care Centre (Chetana) the long stay home (Jyothi).Their core competence lies in providing quality psychosocial rehabilitation services for those suffering from severe mental illness. This is done through our Halfway home, Long stay home and Day care centre. The Fellowship is also well-known for offering training in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Counselling
On day three the students had a workshop on NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING by Ms. Diana Manushi. Guest Faculty, at Christ University, Bangalore.
NLP is the practice of understanding how people organize their thinking, feeling, language and behavior to produce the results they do. NLP provides people with a methodology to model outstanding performances achieved by geniuses and leaders in their field. NLP is also used for personal development and for success in business.A key element of NLP is that we form our unique internal mental maps of the world as a product of the way we filter and perceive information absorbed through our five senses from the world around us.
Dr.Diana Manushi, explained the various techniques through hands-on training. These techniques focused on the auditory, sensory and verbal senses of a person. Further Dr. Manushi highlighted the importance of stimulating all the senses at once.
The last session was based on effective goal forming and aligning where the audience was asked to form several goals and put it in positive terms instead of negative. The workshop concluded with feedback given by the resource person and the participants.
On the fourth day the students visited KRISTU JAYANTHI COLLEGE –BENGALURU, Kristu Jayanti College, founded in 1999, is managed by"BODHI NIKETAN TRUST'', and constituted by the members of St.Joseph Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). The College is affiliated to Bengaluru North University and is reaccredited with grade 'A++' in 2021 by NAAC in the Third Cycle of Accreditation.
The Master of Social Work (MSW) is offered as two year full time (four semesters) programme that is aimed at creating excellent Social Work professionals with the competency in multi disciplinary approach.
DR. JONAS RICHMOND, Head department of MSW welcomed the entire team. Students had an orientation and campus tour of the Institution. An interactive session with the MSW students of both the Institutions was organised.
The second visit was to NEW ARK MISSION OF INDIA, New Ark Mission of India (Home of Hope) is a registered trust since 1997, with Mr. T. Raja (Auto Raja) as its Founder/Secretary.He started with just 13 people in a small garage with Compassion and Faith in God as the only investments.Today, it has grown into a residence for nearly 750 members.From the past, 24 years, they have rescued more than 19,000 people and nearly 9000 people have died in peace and dignity until now in their home. About 1800 people have been rehabilitated. About 6500 people have escaped after recovering without intimating the caretakers at the Institution. The staff members of this Institution have been rescuing people from in and around Bangalore City, those who are abandoned, in dying conditions, rejected by the family and society, poor, needy, homeless and the underprivileged.
Many of the persons are mentally and physically challenged, suffering from many severe diseases like T.B, Cancers, HIV, kidney diseases and liver ailments etc. apart from being sick and old. At the study tour students had a very fruitful & enriching experience.
