Department of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Department of MSW, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya organized a forum activity on a theme “Disconnecting and Connecting to Oneself” on 29th March 2023 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
The programme started with the prayer song led by Sr. Jovita & team. The forum convener Ms. Mrinalini presented an introduction to the theme along with the meaning of social media addiction and its symptoms, the reasons behind social media being so addictive like Dopamine release, fear of missing out, social validation, instant gratification and personalization. In the second part, Ms. Catherin explained the risks and downsides of social media addiction with research studies & statistical data. She further presented three case studies related to social media addiction as well.
Second year MPSW student Mr. Sovin & team presented a mime show depicting how social media has influenced the present generation and the society at large. Various scenes depicted the effects of social media addiction. Followed by this mime there was a Powerpoint presentation on techniques that can be used to stop social media addiction. The treatment and the interventions include the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
Immediately after this a debate was conducted on the topic “Is social media good or bad”, all the participants participated actively. Prof. Dr. Juliet CJ gave her feedback about this thematic presentation. Ms. Sahna summarized the entire programme and proposed the vote of thanks. All PG students numbering up to 200 participants were present for the programme. The programme concluded with the National Anthem. A total of 200 participants participated in the activity.
