Short term Special Courses, Post Graduate diploma in HRM and Counselling, Human Resource Management Forum, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya has organised its first-ever simultaneous workshops on "Professional Competencies for Effective Counselling Practice" and "HR Innovate 2024 - Shaping the Future of Work." This event was not just a meeting of minds but a celebration of excellence in the fields of Counselling and Human Resources.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Rosa Nimmy Matthew Head, dept of Counselling. She spelt out the essence of the workshop highlighted as we take the helm through an era of rapid technological advancements, changing demographics, and evolving employee expectations, it is crucial for organizations to adapt and embrace innovative approaches to stay ahead. The future of work is not just about automation and artificial intelligence; it's about creating a harmonious blend of human potential and technological advancements. HR strategies must focus on fostering a culture of continuous learning, promoting diversity and inclusion, and empowering employees to thrive in this ever-changing landscape. By embracing agility, embracing new technologies, and embracing the potential of our workforce, we can shape a future where work is not just a means to an end, but a fulfilling and purpose-driven experience for all she added.

Speaking about the counselling workshop Ms. Rosa said Counselling as a process and a support system has been evolved in India, and we are living in a current challenging era with diverse challenges faced by people and counsellors. Strengthening and broadening the competencies of counsellor plays a significant role. We need to engage in a continuous learning curve of acquiring and refining the knowledge and skill and be prepared to give our best to the clients who engage in counselling process. Hence revisiting the catalyst within us, getting in touch with our inner self, having a clarity in dealing with ethical dilemma and practicing effective self-care practices need to be our forte.
The program was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising the illumination of knowledge and wisdom. by Dr. Perpetua Machado, Former Principal, College of Home Science, Nirmala Nikethan Mumbai. She delivered the inaugural address, expressing her appreciation for the committed faculty and students of the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya. She praised their efforts in making the college one of the best institutions, dedicated to improving intellectual capacities, instilling social values, and shaping students into good human beings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prof (Ms). Vida Sequeira in her presidential address noted that this workshop provides a valuable platform for learners to make the best use of the resources available and enrich their knowledge. She encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunity to expand their professional competencies and prepare for the evolving landscape of the workforce.

The first session was delivered by Mr. Nikesh Shetty, a distinguished advocate, who spoke on the criminal laws in India. Mr. Shetty commenced his lecture by providing an overview of the criminal law framework in India. He began by explaining the foundational aspects of criminal law, detailing its importance in maintaining order and justice within society. He then discussed the significant changes and reforms that have taken place over the years, emphasizing the dynamic nature of the legal system and the need for continuous updates to reflect contemporary societal needs.

A key focus of his talk was the Bombay Nizamat Court (BNC), where he elaborated on its historical significance and its role in shaping the current legal landscape. Mr. Shetty stressed the importance of being well-informed about the law, stating, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse in the court of law." He underscored the necessity for every citizen to have a basic understanding of legal principles to navigate the complexities of the legal system effectively.

Throughout his presentation, Mr. Shetty provided practical examples and case studies to illustrate the application of criminal laws in real-life scenarios. He discussed notable legal cases, highlighting how legal principles are interpreted and enforced in various situations. This approach not only enhanced the audience's understanding but also made the session engaging and relatable.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Shetty emphasized that both fear and respect for the law should coexist within every citizen. He articulated that such a mindset is crucial for establishing a just and humane society. "A society that respects the law is one that thrives on justice and fairness," he remarked, leaving the audience with a profound understanding of their role in upholding legal integrity.

Overall, Mr. Nikesh Shetty's lecture was an enlightening experience for all attendees, shedding light on the intricate workings of criminal law in India. The session not only educated the audience but also inspired them to take a more active interest in legal matters, fostering a greater sense of civic responsibility and legal awareness.
