The Annual Special Camp 2023-2024 organised by National Service Scheme of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru was scheduled from 25-01-2024 to 31-01-2024 at D.K.Z.P. Higher Primary School Salethur, Bantawala, D.K. The programme officers were Asst. Prof. Obanath and Asst. Prof. Roshini Monica Goveas. The camp was set on the theme- “Youth for Science and Scientific Temperament”.
DAY 1 - January 25, 2024
On January 25, 2024, a group of enthusiastic NSS volunteers embarked on a journey from our college at 1:00 PM. Dr. Sophia N Fernandes, Principal, Mrs. Udayashree office staff, addressed the volunteers and wished success, right after, the volunteers left to the camp location and reached by 2:00pm. Upon reaching the campsite, NSS officers conducted a meeting where volunteers were organized into five groups: Shanti, Jnana, Kshama, Neethi, and Sathya. This strategic division aimed to enhance teamwork and efficiency throughout the camp activities. Following the team formation, an inauguration ceremony was organized, graced by Prof. Vineetha K., Registrar (Evaluation) as the inaugurator. The event also hosted esteemed chief guests, including Smt. Premalatha, Sri. K. Ashraf, Sri. Madhav Maave, Sri. Krishnappa Gowda, Sri. Venkateshwara Bhatt, and Mrs. Sumati U. This official commencement set the tone for a purposeful NSS camp.
The day continued with a tea break, after which each group embarked on a village visit at 5:30 PM. At 7:00 PM, an engaging cultural program unfolded, featuring the talents of the NSS volunteers. Chief guests for this event were Asst. Prof. Veena B. K and Asst. Prof. Anusuya Kamath. Each of the five groups presented diverse cultural programs, concluding the evening's festivities at 8:00 PM, followed by a communal dinner. The evaluation session took place from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, providing an opportunity for feedback and reflection on the day's activities. The day concluded on a positive note with the NSS disperse clap, symbolizing the unity and camaraderie developed throughout the day.
DAY 2 - January 26, 2024
The NSS volunteers commenced the day with an early start, waking up at 5 AM, and engaging in morning rituals, including prayer, yoga, and exercise conducted by Team Kshama at 6 AM. The flag hoisting ceremony led by Team Shanti at 7 AM and Smt. Chitrakala K., Assistant Teacher at D. K. Z. P. Higher Primary School, Kattattila Math, graced the occasion as the guest of the program. The volunteers actively participated in the Republic Day celebration, joining the students of D. K. Z. P. Higher Primary School. A skit and a patriotic group song was presented by the volunteers, aiming to instill a sense of patriotism. From 11 AM to 12 PM, the volunteers engaged in shramadan, with Team Jnana responsible for the cleaning duties. The day's cleaning tasks were efficiently carried out by Team Jnana. Post lunch and a short break, an educational program was conducted by Team Neethi at 2:30 PM. Dr. Rajesh Rai Agari Paltaje, Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering at A.J.I.E.T. Mangalore, served as the resource person. Mrs. Kavitha N., Assistant Teacher at D. K. Z. P. Higher Primary School, Salethur, graced the event as the chief guest. The topic of the program was "Uses and Challenges." At 4:30 PM, a tea break was observed, with Team Sathya taking charge of the kitchen duties for the day. Recreational activities followed at 5 PM, providing a refreshing break before the upcoming cultural program. From 6:30 PM to 8 PM, the much-anticipated cultural program took place. The event was graced by chief guests Mrs. Chitrakala K. and Mrs. Neethi Crastha. The performances showcased the diverse talents of the NSS volunteers, creating a memorable evening. Dinner was served promptly at 8 PM. From 9 PM to 10 PM, an evaluation session provided valuable feedback on the day's activities. Following this, everyone retired to rest, marking the conclusion of an eventful day filled with meaningful activities, celebrations, and community engagement.
DAY 3 - January 27, 2024
The third day of the NSS Special Annual Camp unfolded with a meticulous schedule designed to encompass a range of activities aimed at personal and community development. Commencing at 5:00 AM, the participants engaged in a refreshing hour of personal care, followed by a session of prayer, meditation, yoga, and exercise from 6:00 to 7:00 AM. The day commenced officially with a solemn flag hoisting ceremony at 7:00 AM, graced by distinguished guests Sri. Shankar Shettigar, President of SDMC, Government High School Salethur, and Sri Ravi Kumar Shetty Karaje, President of Ayyappa Seva Trust (R.) Salethur Kolnadu. Following a hearty breakfast at 8:00 AM, the morning transitioned into Shramadan, a community service initiative that extended until noon. The post-lunch session kicked off at 2:00 PM with preparations for an educational program and group discussion. From 2:30 to 4:30 PM, the educational program took center stage, focusing on the significant role NSS plays in developing organizational skills. The resource person for this enlightening session was Prof. Manoj Lewis, an esteemed Assistant Professor from the Department of Commerce at Dr. P Dayananda Pai – P SatishPai Government First Grade College, Carstreet, Mangalore. The chief guest for the occasion was Mr. Abdullah A. B., a prominent member of the Kolnadu Gram Panchayat.
The evening brought a cultural spectacle from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, with Shobha Rai as the distinguished chief guest. The volunteers showcased their diverse talents, adding a vibrant and creative touch to the day. Dinner followed the cultural program, providing a moment of relaxation and socialization. As the day approached its end, a focused evaluation session took place from 9:00 to 10:00 PM. This session provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the day's activities, share insights, and receive constructive feedback. The night concluded with a well-deserved period of rest allowing participants to recharge for the forthcoming days of the NSS Special Annual Camp.
DAY 4 - January 28, 2024
The fourth day of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Annual Special Camp unfolded with an air of anticipation and commitment among the participants, signifying the continuation of a purposeful engagement. The day commenced at 5:00 AM with the participants freshening up, setting a positive and invigorating tone for the upcoming events. This was followed by a session of Prayer, Meditation, Yoga, and Exercise from 6:00 to 7:00 AM, emphasizing the importance of physical and mental well-being. A poignant Flag Hoisting Ceremony took place from 7:00 to 7:30 AM, and the ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Ranganatha Rai Beliyoorgutthu, an esteemed ex-serviceman, who added a touch of solemnity and patriotism to the occasion. The participants were then treated to a nutritious breakfast from 8:00 to 9:00 AM, providing the necessary energy for the day's activities. The morning hours were dedicated to Shramadan. After a well-deserved lunch break from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, the afternoon session delved into an Educational Program focusing on the theme of "Leadership and Youth." Mrs. Karel Pereira, Assistant Professor from the Department of Economics at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, served as the resource person. The program was graced by the presence of Mrs. Jayanthi S. Pujari, Former President of Kolnadu Gram Panchayat, and Fr. Anthony Priest from Nityadhar Church, Salethur, who shared valuable insights on the topic. Following a brief tea break from 4:30 to 5:00 PM, the volunteers performed street play on Alcohol addiction near Salethur junction which brought in awareness about rehabilitation to the villagers.
The highlight of the day was the Cultural Program from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, attended by distinguished guests including Mr. Namiraj Maave, Mr. Manohar K., and Mrs. Sujatha.
A delectable dinner was served at 8:00 PM, concluding the day's activities on a delightful note. The day concluded with an Evaluation session from 9:00 to 10:00 PM, providing an opportunity for participants and organizers to reflect on the events and offer constructive feedback.
DAY 5 - January 29, 2024
The fifth day of the NSS Annual Special Camp, held on January 29, unfolded with a meticulously planned schedule aimed at fostering teamwork, personal development, and cultural enrichment. The day commenced at 5:00 AM, as participants embarked on the day's journey with a session of freshening up, preparing themselves for another day of engaging activities. Following this, the morning continued with a holistic approach to well-being, encompassing prayer, meditation, yoga, and exercise from 6:00 AM.
The formalities commenced at 7:00 AM with the dignified Flag Hoisting Ceremony, a symbolic gesture representing the participants' unity and commitment to their shared cause. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Smt. Pratibha A. P., the esteemed Primary Health Officer, who added significance to the event. A nutritious breakfast followed at 8:00 AM, providing the volunteers with the energy required for the day's activities. The morning session continued with Shramadan, highlighting the camp's commitment to community service and collective well-being. After a brief respite for freshening up and resting, participants gathered for a wholesome lunch at 1:00 PM, rejuvenating themselves for the afternoon activities. The afternoon session took an educational turn from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, focusing on Origami and Paper Art. Mr. Aravinda Kudla, Assistant Teacher at D.K.Z.P. Higher Primary School Moodambailu, served as the resource person, enlightening volunteers about origami's significance, particularly in the field of astronomy. The program's chief guest, Mrs. Preeti R., a Graduate Primary Teacher from D.K.Z.P. Higher Primary School Salethur, added to the educational value of the session. A tea break at 4:30 PM provided participants with a brief interlude, allowing them to refresh themselves before engaging in preparations for the evening's cultural program.
The cultural program, held from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, featured various acts, with Vishwanath Shettigar, the camp cook, delivering a speech about his experiences with the volunteers. Additionally, two volunteers shared their positive experiences working with the cook. Other chief guests, including Mrs. Chitrakala and Asst. Prof. Joel Joseph, further enriched the cultural program. The day concluded with a hearty dinner from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, providing participants with a final opportunity to gather and share their experiences. The subsequent evaluation session, held from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, allowed participants to reflect on the day's events and offer valuable feedback.
DAY 6 - January 30, 2024
The sixth day of the NSS Annual Special Camp, held on January 30, unfolded with a meticulously planned schedule, encompassing a range of activities aimed at fostering a sense of community, discipline, and skill development among the NSS volunteers. The day commenced at 5:00 AM with the volunteers engaging in the essential task of freshening up, preparing themselves for a day filled with diverse activities. Following this, from 6:00 to 7:00 AM, the volunteers immersed themselves in prayer, meditation, yoga, and exercise—a holistic approach to instill a sense of well-being and mindfulness among them.
The official proceedings kicked off at 7:00 AM with a flag hoisting ceremony. Shri Muhammad Haneef, SDMC Member of Higher Primary School, Salethur, graced the occasion as the chief guest, lending significance to the event. The breakfast was served at 08:00 AM, and the morning continued with Shramadan, where volunteers actively participated in community service and cleanliness initiatives, contributing their efforts to the betterment of the local environment. In the afternoon, the campsite received a visit from Dr. Nagarathna K A, the NSS Coordinator of Mangalore University, for an inspection. The NSS volunteers received positive feedback from school teachers and the camp cook, a testament to their dedication and commitment. Dr. Nagarathna K A expressed satisfaction with the volunteers' performance and offered words of encouragement for their continued involvement in future NSS activities. The educational program of the day, scheduled from 2:30 to 4:30 PM, focused on the theme of "Life Skills." Facilitated by the trainers of Samvad Youth Resource Centre, Mangalore, the session aimed at enhancing the volunteers' practical abilities and knowledge. Mr. Mallesh Naik, A.C. Headmaster of Government High School Salethur, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding prestige to the educational endeavor. A brief tea break at 4:30 PM provided a moment of refreshment before the evening's main event—Shibira Jyothi. At 8:00 PM, this emotional ceremony unfolded, wherein elders from the community handed over a lit lamp symbolizing the transfer of knowledge and wisdom from the older generation to the youth. Volunteers arranged the lamps around the border of a map of India drawn on the ground, and national integration songs resonated as a backdrop. Chief guests for the program included Devdas Shetty Palthaaje, Raghavendra Sir (PET), Shankar Shettygaar, Mrs. Chitrakala, Mrs. Neerupama, and Mrs. Ranjitha from Salethur School. The day concluded at 10:00 PM with the volunteers expressing their views about the camp and how it impacted them.
DAY 7 - January 31, 2024
The NSS Annual Special Camp reached its zenith on the final day, culminating in a vibrant valedictory program that encapsulated the essence of community service and shared experiences. As the clock struck 10:00 AM, volunteers, donned in their uniforms, gathered to reflect on the profound impact of their endeavors.
The valedictory program welcomed esteemed guests who have made indelible contributions to the community. Sri. Hasainar D., the Vice-President of Salethur Gram Panchayat, shared insights into the importance of community engagement, applauding the relentless efforts of NSS volunteers. Sri. Subhash Chandra Shetty Kulalu, President of Vitla Padnur Agricultural Service Co-operative Society, highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture in rural development and commended the collaboration between NSS and local organizations. Prof. Vineetha K., Registrar (Evaluation) graced the occasion and congratulated the volunteers for their team spirit and dedication. The closing address was a poignant moment as Sri. Devidas Shetty Paaltaje, a venerable social worker, took the stage. His words resonated with the spirit of selfless service and the transformative journey that both volunteers and the local community had undertaken over the course of the camp.

Sumati U., the Headmistress of D.K.G.P. Higher Primary School, Salethur, expressed gratitude for NSS initiatives in promoting education and holistic development.
