On Friday, 21st March 2025, twenty nine students of (II BA) Psychology from School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya visited Mother Theresa's Home for the Poor, Falnir, Mangaluru. They were accompanied by Prof. (Dr) Sandra Sunitha Lobo. The visit was from 9:15 am to 10:30 am.

The session began with a prayer song setting a peaceful and heartfelt tone for the day. It was followed by a series of songs and a medley of dance performances by male and female students, both individual and group, bringing smiles to everyone's faces. The inmates enjoyed the performances, clapping and immersing themselves in the moment. The shared laughter and joy made the atmosphere even more special, making it a heartwarming experience for all of us.

To make the event even more interactive, there were fun games which included the song guessing game and passing the parcel. The residents enthusiastically took part, playing along with excitement and energy. Many inmates won prizes, and their happiness was evident as they received them with bright smiles. Seeing their joyful reactions made these moments truly memorable.

The sisters and caregivers at the home were incredibly welcoming and played an important role in making the day special. Their patience, kindness, and dedication towards the residents were inspiring. The way they care for the elderly with such warmth and compassion is something to be truly admired. Their love and commitment make the home a place full of comfort, and we deeply respect the work they do every single day.

As a small gesture of love, the class contributed six large bags (4 kg each) of detergent powder, 10 packets of refined sunflower oil, 20 kgs boiled rice,10 kgs sugar, 52 pieces of soaps specially gifted for all inmates besides soft-bristled toothbrushes, toothpaste and soaps. The students also gifted toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps and face wash tubes to the 20 helpers who serve the inmates with love. Haleema Mazeena's self-prepared rice ladoos with jaggery sweetened everyone. Ashifa (II BA) was instrumental in gift wrapping. More than the gifts, it was the time spent together that mattered the most. The programme was beautifully compered by Nasiha (II BA), making it a meaningful and engaging interaction.

We were thanked by one of the inmates. Thereafter, Rev. Sr. Yesu Theresa, Mother Superior of Mother Theresa's Home thanked the students for their time, energetic performances and goodwill of their contribution. Prof. (Dr) Sandra S. Lobo expressed words of encouragement to the students and appreciation of the noble service rendered by the Missionaries of Charity.

The visit concluded with students personally meeting all inmates who exchanged smiles, shook hands, received blessings and compliments and bid a tearful goodbye too. The visit was a powerful reminder of the value of human connection and how much of a difference a simple act of kindness can make. In a world that moves so fast, we often forget how much a simple conversation, a shared moment, or a heartfelt smile can mean to someone. Spending time with the elderly showed us that happiness is not just about material things—it's about feeling seen, heard, and valued. Their happiness was not in grand gestures but in simple moments of togetherness, reminding us that love, care, and companionship are what truly matter.

This experience taught us that while we came to give, we left receiving something much greater—a deeper understanding of love, patience, and the true essence of humanity.
