The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a session on ‘Dactyloscopy’ for the first year students of MSc CFS held on 18th October 2022 at 11.00 a.m. The resource person for the session was Ms. Bindiya T, Former Assistant Professor of the department and Trainee, Scene of Crime Officer(SOCO), Government of Karnataka who is also an alumni of the institution.
Ms. Bindiya T spoke about the historical development of Dactyloscopy, its principles and importance in the criminal investigation. She explained about the patterns of fingerprints such as Arch, Loop, Whorl and Composites, the characteristics of fingerprints like the bifurcation, lake, eye, short ridge, long ridge, ridge beginning, ridge ending and so on. She detailed the methods of developing fingerprints through the demonstration. She also explained the various powders used in developing the fingerprints such as black powder, grey powder, white powder, fluorescent powder, silver powder, red powder and also about the Magna brush development. She demonstrated how to lift the fingerprint to help the students with practical exposure.
Students expressed that it was a very informative session where it helped the students to gain the knowledge on all the aspects of fingerprints. Altogether, 17 students were present during the session. The session concluded at 12.30 pm with a vote of thanks.
